Pat Bamford Joins the Blades After Leading Derogatory Songs About Coach Wilder
Patrick Bamford has signed with Sheffield United just seven months following instigating insulting taunts targeting their manager, Chris Wilder.
This experienced striker, without a club after departing from Leeds, has signed a agreement joining the second-tier club in difficulty until January. His seven-year career at Elland Road concluded by mutual consent in August.
One of Bamford’s final notable acts while at Leeds was to lead insulting chants regarding Wilder amid Leeds' promotion party in April. Currently, the former England player will be playing for Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to rescue the team he loves away from the bottom places.
Previous History Between the Striker and Wilder
Both men had history prior to Leeds won promotion to the Premier League the previous campaign and United lost the promotion decider by Sunderland. Wilder described the forward as a "muppet" back when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United secured automatic promotion while Leeds United fell short in the promotion playoffs.
Reconciliation & Moving Forward
All seems to have been resolved with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, urgently requiring of improvement in attack while Bamford aiming to rejuvenate his career.
The song about Wilder spread widely this spring. An apologetic Patrick and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the following day.
Wilder stated at the time: “Had a conversation with Patrick recently and I have no problem at all with that. I’m not sure about the language from a fellow professional! But I valued and admired him giving me a call.
“We spent 20 minutes and the same again I spoke to Daniel as well and we had a longer discussion together and he is a great person, a class act. When I was playing we used to give it and take it and that is part and parcel of the game across all levels, even on a Sunday morning. I've got no problem at all. I am cool with it and I told him that to Pat.”

Bamford featured in 18 appearances with Leeds United in the previous campaign but the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea & Middlesbrough player has faced difficulties with injury over the past few seasons.
