Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Sparks Heated Discussions Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a new playlist called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but includes several key adjustments:

  • Every squad has just 8 real players, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities performed by human gamers grant complete experience points, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
  • Only two maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.

So essentially, this mode lives up to its name: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it gives more options for gamers looking for alternative ways to have fun with the game. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 players are upset.

Community Responses: From Fury to Support

"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," states one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," says a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," and another details all the issues they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this game 24/7. Let them strike a balance," states another. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Concerns and Player Feedback

All that said, there are valid points to complain about the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it will make queue times even longer for different playlists because of the sheer number of playlists in the game already. Similarly, some areas often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Finally, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to remove bot farms from the mode. Thus this new playlist seems like the community compromising halfway, according to forum feedback. A different user labels this mode as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?

If Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and responding to player input. Tasks being too difficult got fixed very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
